     -From the Director

The post-Easter season is a favorite time of year for many of us. The plethora of church-related Easter activities is behind us. Pastors have been encouraged due to the attendance on this special Sunday as the Lord reminds them again of the potential his local congregation still possesses. Yes, I know many of these participants only come on Easter and Christmas. By the way, I heard them described last week as "lilies and poinsettias." But the point is they still come. A spark remains somewh...

     Hospitality House

This time of the year as you look around to the things God made for us and watch the trees put on new leaves and flowers blooming in their beautiful color, wouldn't it be nice if we could do the same. Get rid of all the old dead things in our lives and put on new. Well maybe we can if we try hard enough and really want to. Maybe we need to do more than just spring clean our houses, but our lives also.

We at the Hospitality House are seeing some spring cleaning in some of the lives ...

     Volunteersim News

I was both saddened and surprised in January when Red Frye, Administrator at Big Country Baptist Assembly, called and announced that both he and his wife Cindy were resigning their respective positions there. They have been a blessing to our camp for five years and did much to turn around the retreat season bookings at BCBA.

The Executive Committee portion of the Executive Board of BCBA serves as both the personnel committee and search committee for the camp, and we quickly went to w...

      Prayer Thought

"Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away Your displeasure toward us. Will You not revive us again that Your people may rejoice in You?" Psalm 85:4, 6

Dear friends, I don't know about you, but events in the past few weeks have been discouraging to me. The falling economy, moral failure of our elected officials, Mr. Obama's warning of a simmering anger between the races, and the growing apathy of many within the church indicate that America is in serious trouble. Kinney Mitchell, an Abilene (actually Clyde) pastor serving in Russia, sent an e-mail this week stating that the headlines in many Russian papers contain "dire warnings" of U. S. economic problems. Some have said it could be worse than the 1930's.

What are we to make of all the bad news? What should Christians do? Well, first we must remember God is still on His throne. He is still working out all world events according to His plan. Secondly, we must pray for God?s will to be done. It may well take a huge economic crisis to wake us up. We need to intensify our prayer efforts, crying out for a full-blown spiritual awakening in America. Thirdly, we must remind ourselves that our security is not tied to the price of oil or milk.

My devotional reading today was from Matthew 8:23-26. It's the familiar story of Jesus calming the storm. Remember, Jesus was asleep during the storm. When the disciples awoke Him, crying that they would drown, Jesus didn't rebuke them because the storm wasn't severe or because there wasn't real danger. He rebuked them for not trusting Him in the midst of the storm. Whatever storms face America, Jesus has ample power to calm them. He may be waiting for us to exercise our faith.

If the answer for America is revival, join me in praying, "Lord, do whatever it takes." Then in faith, sit down in the boat and hold on.

Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.

Bro. John
